With this document, pursuant to Articles 13 and 122 of Legislative Decree no. 196/2003 (“Privacy Code”), as well as in accordance with the provisions of the General Measure of the Privacy Guarantor of May 8, 2014, the data controller, Alessia Beltramini, provides users of the Be bibi website with some information on the cookies used.
What are cookies
Cookies are small text strings that the site visited by the user sends to his terminal (usually to the browser), where they are stored in order to be then retransmitted to the same site, at the next visit by the same user. In the course of browsing, the user may also receive cookies on his terminal that are sent by different sites or web servers (so-called “third parties”), on which some elements (such as, for example, images, maps, sounds, specific links to pages of other domains) present on the site that the same is visiting may reside.
Cookies, usually present in users’ browsers in very large numbers and sometimes even with characteristics of wide temporal persistence, are used for different purposes: performing computer authentication, monitoring sessions, storing information about specific configurations regarding users accessing the server.
Cookies differ from one another on the basis of the purposes pursued by those who use them. In this regard, two macro categories of cookies are identified: technical cookies and profiling cookies.
Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such service” (see Article 122, paragraph 1, of the Code).
Profiling cookies are aimed at creating profiles related to the user and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same in the context of web browsing. Due to the particular invasiveness that such devices can have within the private sphere of users, European and Italian regulations provide that the user must be adequately informed about their use and thus express their valid consent.
A further element to be considered, for the purposes of the correct definition of the matter under consideration, is the subjective one. That is, it is necessary to take into account the different entity that installs cookies on the user’s terminal, depending on whether it is the same operator of the site that the user is visiting (which can be briefly referred to as the “publisher”) or a different site that installs cookies through the former (so-called “third party”).
